I have learnt far too much about the process of flooring over the last few weeks… simply put we have been delayed due to it taking longer than anyone imagined for our floor to dry out despite the full range of heating, dehumidifiers and fans being applied…. We now have our new door to the Wellhouse installed with a new ‘smartlock’: The new oak front door looks darker than we had intended but this is due to the ‘tratment’ required for warranty and we expect this will mellow. Painting is almost finished… this is our new look cloakroom… it is missing some minor things, like a sink but they are in plan… And this is the new entrance area, Brad is working on the units to be installed in the cloakroom and the kitchenette: And this is our main room… The only delay… Read more: Painting… - Fitting
We almost have a new front door…. well we have the frame in… and next week we well get the door and add the new smart lock: We have POWER! Thursday 16th October and our plasterers have completed the internal skim coat…. Now we have to wait for the screed and the plaster to dry…. Time to decide on paint colours…. we reviewed a range of palettes with our potential users and settled on a small number to test… many thanks to Jo Kirk who advised us on potential options and combinations and to Jo Curtis who painted our walls with test samples…. we have homed in on Wattle V… Read more: Colour - Underfloor heating
Things are warming up now we have our underfloor heating pipework installed… The pipeworks covers all of the annexe from the entrance area into the cloakroom and main room: This picture from the main room out into the reception area highlights the difference in lighting now we have the skylight fitted… Next steps are to… Read more: Underfloor heating - Roofmore
Our roof has now been re-felted… and you can now see the raised area where we will install a new skylight for the entrance area: And the pitched roof to the rear has also been refelted along with new ridge tiles… We still have 2 items to finish on the roofing: Guttering Installation of roof… Read more: Roofmore - Roofless
Work has now started on insulating our roof, installing a new sky light for the entrance area and re-tiling the front and fixing a leak. OK, nothing to see here… underneath the tarpaulin is new 100mm insulation laid on top of the existing flat roof, awaiting a new felt finish. We are now in week 4 of the 12 week project and the team have made good progress: Completed most of the the internal plasterboarding and started plastering, we cant finish plastering yet as we still have to replace the windows: Finished first fit electrics… do you want another photo of wires (and buckets)? Today marks the end of the first 3 weeks of our project of 12 weeks, we are 25% done. We had a meeting with Nick Carey-Thomas, our volunteer architect, and Sam Orbell, Flint Construction project manager and we reckon we are actually ahead of schedule…. but… everyday has a a new surprise waiting for us!… Read more: Counting chickens… - Shocking!
Another big step forward today as our electricians are onsite performing ‘first fit’ electrics…. So now we have cables dangling from the ceiling…. - Lots of battens
Almost 2 weeks into the build and we (well Flint) are fixing the battens on the walls to house the insulation layer before we plaster: And in the entrance area we have created the new raised floor that will enable an reception / waiting area. 1 week in and we have already started installing the insulation! And the new wall to create the storage area next to the room has been built: The wasp nest has been dealt with, the hidden chimney has been tested for asebestos – its ‘white’ so not so bad, and we have plan to remove… Read more: Insulating - Asbestos Wasps
