The Christophers
Director: Steven Soderbergh
With Ian McKellen, Michaela Coel, James Corden, Jessica Gunning
Runtime: 100 minutes
A gifted painter. A gifted forger. Eight unfinished canvases
Julian Sklar (McKellen) was the wild man of the sixties London art world. He has not painted in decades and the money went long ago. His estranged children are desperate for an inheritance, so they hire Lori Butler (Michaela Coel), an art restorer with a talent for forgery, to pose as his assistant and quietly finish eight canvases buried in storage. The plan is simple. Julian is not.
Written as an original screenplay for Ian McKellen, opposite Michaela Coel of I May Destroy You.
“Terrifically exhilarating and funny, as bracing as a large vodka and tonic before lunch.” The Guardian
“A deliciously sly, twisty, darkly comedic take on the art world.” The Spectator
