1916. Divided by War. United in Song.
With their men gone to war, a desperate choral society appoints the mysterious Dr. Guthrie as choirmaster – despite his German connections and devastating secrets. As teenage recruits face conscription and suspicion tears the community apart, they rehearse Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius. In the darkest hour, music becomes their only hope.
Alan Bennett’s first original screenplay in 40 years reunites the team behind The History Boys and The Lady in the Van. Fiennes delivers a commanding performance in this authentic wartime drama that balances Bennett’s characteristic wit with genuine emotion, while celebrating Britain’s choral heritage.
