Message from Jane Short, Chair of Beech Village Hall

March 22, 2020

These are uncertain and unprecedented times for all of us, and you may understandably be feeling anxious about what is to come as the COVID-19 situation develops. It is more important now than ever for us all to remember that we are part of the Beech community, and for you to know that there are many of us willing to offer help.

We are at this moment assigning volunteers to a group of addresses near to them. You will receive a flier with a name and contact details so please do contact your volunteer, even if it is just for a chat. Isolation brings its problems for such a social species and contact at this time is particularly important. Of course, this doesn’t stop any of you for ‘looking out’ for your neighbours. We are really grateful to the many people who have volunteered.

Many hirers are postponing and cancelling their Village Hall bookings so the Village Hall will be quieter than usual. Arrangements have been made with hirers to ensure no one ends up ‘out of pocket’. We have also made sure the people who carry out work for us are also cared for financially. The Hall is in a good position to be able to weather this storm. This is partly because we have been saving funds for a new Annexe replacement or refurbishment, and it will cause no great harm if this is delayed.

Socially we won’t be holding the monthly socials for a while and the Quiz on May 16this postponed although we are going to try and put on a virtual quiz.

We are taking advantage of this period to spruce the Village Hall up with a lick of paint inside. We also hope to carry out the kitchen refurbishment in the next few weeks. We can look forward to a gleaming hall to come back to!

It is a good time to think of the positives; the sense of community that has always been present in Beech is significantly heightened at this time. It truly is a good place to live. We are heading towards the Spring and the weather appears to be on the up.

Please call me if you can’t contact your assigned volunteer and I will do my best to help from my self-isolation!

Take care everyone and stay safe

Jane (07889 827476)
