Beech Village Bonfire Night 2016

November 10, 2016

The big bang

The big bang

There was a great turn-out for this year’s Guy Fawkes’ Night with an enormous gathering at the Village Hall and a spectacular torchlight parade up Wellhouse Road to the Recreation Ground where a wonderful bonfire was waiting to be lit.  Everybody threw their flaming torches onto the bonfire and it was soon blazing away.

There was food and drink available and soon there were queues for the burgers, hot dogs, soft drink, beer and mulled wine.  The fireworks soon got started and were amazing.

There is a gallery of photos of the procession and the bonfire, and another of all the fireworks.  It was really a very successful evening.

Nick Charman, Chairman of the Village Hall, sent all the helpers a message the next day which was really good.  It’s always nice to be appreciated – here it is –

“I heard many people saying what fun they were having at the Fireworks Event we all put on last night.  We saw many people from out-of-village, as well as many Beech villagers. It was lots of hard work, and we had good luck with the weather.

I counted 29 Beech villagers who were involved in this event, working on all the various teams …. and that too is a warming thought and shows what a strong community spirit we have, with such kind people to help.

If  I have left anyone out, please let me know as I do want everyone who lent a hand to feel really appreciated.

We found this morning on the Rec: two woolly hats, one child’s coat, and one glove.  If you know anyone who was missing something in that list call us as we have them.

So this is to say THANKS everyone.  Magnificent effort and pulling together.  I hope you had fun too.

We have put up pictures of the event below and on Facebook.

Best wishes ….. and whew!

Nick”
