Beech celebrates Midsummer in style

June 21, 2015

Dinner & raffle smallIt may have been a week ahead of the actual Summer Solstice, but Beech turned out in full force to celebrate Midsummer on Saturday 13th June! As planned, this was truly an event for all ages, and it was particularly nice to see so many family groups involved.

Thanks to a fantastic band of organisers and helpers, led by Stella, the Village Hall and marquees looked amazing. Draped with pretty, handmade bunting and with every surface overflowing with vases and jugs of flowers from village gardens, the scene was set for a perfect English summer party.

Dancing2 smallThe evening started with a fun local and seasonally-themed quiz, while younger guests were also invited to “guess the name of the bear”. Although a little overcast, the early evening was warm enough for everyone to enjoy the delicious food – also all prepared by volunteers – in the marquees before moving inside for the main attraction – the live music and dancing!

Dancing4 smallThe talented young musicians of Threepenny Bit certainly lived up to their reputation and performed brilliantly all evening. Special thanks has to go to their enthusiastic ‘caller’, who managed to keep everyone moving in more or less the right direction at more or less the right time, keeping everything just the “organised” side of “chaos”!

Congratulations to William for guessing the Bear’s name as Gus and a huge thank you to Peter and Sue for selling a massive amount of raffle tickets!! Well done to everyone in the village and beyond for such great support. Yet again, this was a wonderful demonstration of what village living is all about.
