Beech Gardeners 2020 Programme

Following a feature packed and successful 2019, Beech Gardeners have announced their programme for 2020. With something for everyone, including the Annual Show in September, new members are always welcome and should contact Kathy (549401) or Sheila (88924) for further information.

BEECH GARDENERS PROGRAMME – 2020

All evening meetings are held at Woodlawn, 104 Medstead Road, Beech, GU34 4AF at 7.30pm.

Meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month.

Feb 5thMarcus Dancer will demonstrate the many varieties of Winter Flowering Clematis and will have plants for sale.

Mar 4thPatricia Elkington of Little Court Garden will give a talk entitled Humour in the Garden.

Apr 1stOld Fools Day at Woodlawn, 3pm. Easter Egg Hunt, Windowsill Floral Arrangement, Easter Tableau Competitions and an Easter Tea.

May 6thThe first garden visit is to Little Croft, Church Grove, Fleet, GU51 4LA to a garden inspired by Japanese Design Principles with pond and stream garden, tea garden, arbour and dry-stone garden. Meet at BVH to car share at 1.25pm. Entry £4 Tea £3.

Jun 3rdThe Priory, Beech Hill, RG7 2BJ. Extensive gardens in the grounds of former C12 French Priory, rebuilt in 1648, besides the River Lodden. Formal garden with lawns, herbaceous borders, roses, woodland, specimen trees, lake and Italian style water garden. Meet BVH at 1.20pm. Admission £6, tea £4.

Jul 1stOur annual Picnic courtesy of Helen and Kevin Lamb, Highwoods, Snode Hill, Beech, GU34 4AX, at 3pm.

Aug 5thMerdon Manor, Merdon Castle Lane, Hursley, Winchester, SO21 2JJ. A 5-acre country garden surrounded by panoramic views. Wildlife pond with ducks, large wisteria, roses, lemon trees, lawns, yew hedges and secret walled garden with fountains and Black Hebridean Sheep. Meet BVH 1.15pm. Admission £6, tea/coffee £1 and cake £1.50.

Sep 2ndLake House, Northington, SO24 9TG. Set in the beautiful Candover Valley, two large lakes in mature woodland with waterfalls, long landscaped vistas and folly. Also, a walled garden with rose parterre, mixed and herbaceous borders, rose pergola leading to a moongate, conservatory and greenhouse. Meet BVH 1.30pm. Admission and tea £8.

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 26thOur Annual Show BVH

Oct 7thWeir House, Abbotstone Road, Old Alresford, SO24 9DG. Spectacular riverside garden with sweeping lawns, yew buttresses and mixed perennial beds. Vegetable garden. Contemporary garden around pool area, bog garden and woodland walks. Meet BVH 1.35pm. Admission £5. All facilities provided for us to bring along provisions to make our own drinks and eat cake.

Nov 4thThe first winter talk will be given by Andrew Halstead on Pests New to Britain.

Dec 2ndChristmas Party at Woodlawn 7.30pm, theme WINTER WONDERLAND
