Beech Ladies Group

It seems that summer has arrived at last and the Beech Ladies cake stall raised an impressive £160.60, plus £80.00 for the intoxicating fruit cake raffle, which was kindly made and donated by James and Katie Dick. As usual the cake stall kept half the money raised for the Beech Ladies and the rest was given to the Beech Village Hall Fund for the new hall. A huge thanks you to all who donated the fabulous cakes and gave up their time to help man the stall, set up and clear away.

Incidentally, the 'raffles' were called at the Hog Roast and the cake raffle number 13 was won by a non-local, judging by the long telephone number (I didn't have my glasses and poor light). Imagine my surprise in the morning when I went to phone the winner whose telephone number was on the back of the ticket, I saw that it was the same code as my mother's, then I saw that it was my mother's! She was delighted and is going to save it for Christmas, so lucky me; I shall get to taste it too.

We had a fun afternoon in April, when John, a Yeoman of the Guard, regaled us with stories as a Yeoman. He brought his uniform along for us to see and we marvelled at the fantastic embroidery. I modelled his uniform and was able to declare it very hot and heavy. Ladies, remember the stories about the SAS, plus the stockings and suspenders. Ha. Ha!

For our May meeting we had Afternoon Tea at Tylney Hall - delicious, we rather overfilled ourselves and in June we heard a very funny account of owning a long boat, by Gwen Carlton, who we hope to have back again next year with even more funny stories. July's meeting was a visit to Rotherfield Estate by kind permission of Sir James and Lady Scott, concluding with cream tea.

On 13 August, Clive Greenaway, a professional speaker will entertain us with the hilarious ramblings of Tommy Cooper and his magic! As this is a special event we have extended the invitation to the people of Beech. "Just like that!" Please phone Helen for tickets which are a snip at £5 p.p. Please ensure you are at the hall by 2.15pm, as the show starts at 2.30pm.

September's meeting is a talk 'Murder Behind the Headlines', October's meeting is a trip to RAF Odiham.

November is the AGM and December finishes off the year with an outing for Christmas Lunch.

Anyone wishing to join us, please do, just contact Helen Lamb.
