About Neighbourhood Watch - Neighbourhood Watch Contacts

Beech Neighbourhood Watch News

January 2008

Over recent months there have been, unfortunately, a number of crimes reported around the village:

  • Theft of a chainsaw in Medstead Road in broad daylight.
  • A car wing mirror removed in a drive in Medstead Road.
  • £150 stolen from a plant till.
  • Forklift truck stolen from Medstead Road.

These crimes highlight the potential for passing villains on the A339 and Medstead Road to commit opportunistic crimes. Lock up those valuable pieces of machinery and be wary of calling strangers.

A break-in to Theddon Grange outbuildings. There have been a number of such crimes in villages around Alton. As always lock up and alarm those outbuildings containing valuable tools, machinery and riding tack.

Graffiti in Medstead Road and Kings Hill. If you see anyone perpetrating this unsociable crime they must be reported - it is intolerable.

We have had reports of sheep worrying by pet dogs. Please remember to keep your dog on a lead when close to farm animals.

The members of the watch are concerned about road calming on the Medstead Road, and have written to the Parish Council asking them to consider speed awareness cameras. When driving on Medstead Road please keep your speed well below the limit to give pedestrians who may be young or fail a chance.

Finally we have many reports and rumours of telephone and Internet scams... We can only suggest that if it looks suspicious, you should hang up the phone, delete and log off immediately.

Reading this tale of woe, one may think that there are villains around every corner, but this is not so. Beech is a very safe neighbourhood compared with many, and all that is needed is a little care in protecting your possessions, dealing with suspicious circumstances, and reporting your concerns to the Police or a member of the Neighbourhood Watch.
